Ringers spotted competing for Under 8s and 9s

With no match scheduled, the Under 8s and 9s organised an inter-team contest at Cartworth Moor to to get some extra match practice in, but some ringers were spotted!

Dad, Bob, started in nets for the Reds and, thankfully, his lack of prowess in front of goal was masked by an early 3 goal lead – goals by Finlay, Rudy and Jozef. Coach Ben brought himself on as additional player for the the Whites and his hidden playing talents quickly made an impact and brought the score back to 3-3 (Ronnie, Jackson and Chris). Additional players for the Whites were Joe (Under 11s) and Edward (Under 7s) and the combined talents and overwhelming force of the side helped them take the lead.

Despite Bob venturing outfield, and a brief swap of teams for Ben, the Reds couldn’t pull the score back. With time running out, the Reds resorted to long-ball tactics – all correctly aged players into the box. A free-kick from their own half almost rebounded back into their own net following a deflection off Jackson. A mad scramble in the dying minutes saw the cross-bar hit three times in succession as well as a long range effort from Bob also hitting the plastic-work. The ever-so-long stoppage time (we suspect Ref Matthew’s watch was faulty) just wouldn’t bear fruit and a last ditch power-drive by Bob sailed into the distance. A win for Whites – what a comeback!

Despite it being a friendly the boys played some stunning football with great interplay and organisation.
