Boxing training to improve mental and physical toughness

It ain’t how hard you hit; it’s about how hard you can get hit, and keep moving forward…

Rocky Balboa

The Under 10’s and Under 12’s recently swapped their football boots for boxing gloves for a training session at Rawthorpe Amatuer Boxing Club with owner and coach Mark Reynolds.

The boys and girls had a taster of what it takes to become an ultra-fit boxer with sit-ups, press-ups, running, squats, star-jumps and burpees before donning the gloves and taking to the punch bags. The highlight of the session was when they were allowed to be let loose on Mark with Rylee Weatherhead also taking the full force of the punches.

With both teams now competing in the top leagues the hope is for the cross-training to help them improve their stamina and mental toughness in order for them to be competitive with the top local junior teams.

You never lose until you actually give up.

Despite the training having a serious purpose all the kids had a fantastic hour and enjoyed it so much that regular sessions are going to be introduced for those interested. Let’s see what results they yield.
